Fort Deposit was established in 1813 as a military supply depot during the Creek Indian War. Today it is best known as the home of Priester's Pecans — one of the South's most beloved pecan and candy companies — and the Calico Fort Arts & Crafts Fair, the oldest and largest arts and crafts fair in the Southeast, held each April.
